त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्

उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनात् मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् ।।

oṁ tryambakaṁ yajāmahe sugandhiṁ puṣṭi-vardhanam ǀ

urvārukam-iva bandhanān mṛtyormukṣīya māmṛtāt ǁ

Meaning: Om, We Worship the Three-Eyed God (Lord Shiva),- Who is Fragrant (Spiritual Essence) and Who Nourishes all beings- May He severe our Bondage of Samsara (Worldly Life), like a Cucumber (severed from the bondage of its Creeper)-and thus Liberate us from the Fear of Death, by making us realize that we are never separated from our Immortal Nature.

Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is also called “Tryambakam Mantra” refering to 3 eyes of God Shiva,”Rudra Mantra” refering to Rudra a form of Shiva,and “Mrita-Sanjivini” mantra because it is a component of the “life-restoring” practice.Its there in all three vedas, the Rig veda VII.59.12, b) the Yajur Veda III.60, and c) the Atharva Veda XIV.1.17 and in Shiva Purana.
